What is an Acupoint message?

Acupressure is an ancient form of massage that is one of the treatment methods used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The goal of acupressure (as well as other Chinese Medicine treatments) is to encourage the movement of qi (“life energy”) through the 14 channels (meridians) inside the body.

Rebecca identifies various locations (acupoints) located on energy pathways or meridians that run through the horse’s body. Working on the theory that imbalances in energy flow cause problems such as pain, inflammation, and muscle spasms, she then applies gentle pressure at an acupoint and assesses the horse’s reaction. Taking into account the horse’s particular problem (anything from stiff movement under saddle to possible gastric ulcers) along with the horse’s reaction to treatment, Rebecca can select other points to use.

All living creatures have energy in their body. The flow of energy through the body is constantly changing and can easily become disrupted. Injury & trauma, poor diet, inappropriate exercise, genetics, toxins, and exogenous pathogens can interfere with the body’s energetic balance. Even emotions can disrupt the equilibrium. Rebecca’s business Acupoint Therapies is all about returning the body to balance.

Rebecca Douglas is board-certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (Diplomate of Acupuncture (NCCAOM)® or Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM)®, licensed in Acupuncture and certified by the state of Maryland in Animal Acupuncture.

Rebecca wants to put the power back into the owner’s hands to do something for their horse to make a profound difference in how their horse experiences life and health. She wants to profoundly help every horse that we see in a holistic way that doesn’t require drugs, surgery, or invasive treatments.
